Metal Wine Cellar Racks

Some wine racks are tucked away into cellars and are used in a very utilitarian manner. They are mostly covered in cobwebs and the bottles probably need dusting before they can be handled. While this might sound nice from a certain perspective, other people use wine racks for a more decorative purpose and these are not placed in dark cellars with a single light bulb hanging from the ceiling. Yet another form of wine racks is constructed specifically for the purposes of displaying wine. The display units for bottles may be constructed for a single bottle or for an array of hundreds of bottles. Like their difference applications, wine racks are also made from different materials like pine, walnut, oak, and metal. The common thing about all the wooden wine racks is their strength. Popular among these are the redwood wine racks. Similar there are metal wine cellar racks that preferred by people who wish to go for absolute strength, or a combination of wood and metal.

A common thing to do with metal wine cellar racks is to use a combination of galvanized steel and a high quality wood, for example pine, and the final product is then given a finish of a good wood preservative. This way, the rack looks wooden enough to be exotic and yet there is not compromise in terms of strength.

Metal wine cellar racks need to be placed where the temperature and humidity are constant and there are no vibrations. This is the reason why basements are preferred to regular rooms because being underground, they are better insulated from the changes of temperature and humidity than rooms that are more open to the earth's environment. However, even when keeping metal wine cellar racks in the basement you must make sure that the temperature does not fluctuate too much even though the fluctuation will be relatively lower than what it will be upstairs. The maturity of the wine and its developing taste is not depending on whether the place of storage is pretty or not but rather consistent in temperature, humidity, and stability. Keeping the metal wine cellar racks aligned, or on top of, machinery like refrigerators is a bad idea due to the mechanical vibrations. You must also make sure that the metal wine cellar racks are placed in their proper upright position so that the bottles are always placed horizontally in them or tip towards the cork so that it is always moist. For bottles that are not filled enough to completely cover the cork from the inside, tipping towards the mouth might become necessary.

The advantage of metal wine cellar racks over other types is that due to ease of manufacture they are available in many shapes, sizes, and styles. There are metal wine cellar racks made from wrought iron, chrome, or steel. They can either be freestanding or be part of a table. Some designs can even be hung. Similar to metal wine cellar racks, the wooden racks, or combination racks, are also available in contemporary as well as classical designs. For those fortunate enough to have a cellar there are good racks with temperature control built in.
